Question: November 2007 - How do I create a permanent paging file? |

Answer: Configuring a permanent swap file, sometimes called a paging file, allows speech recognition software programs to send information out to the disk when it runs out of physical RAM memory. To set this up follow the following procedures:
- Perform a Defrag. This ensures that the permanent swap file is placed in a contiguous single area of the hard drive. Start button, Programs, Accessories, Sytem Tools, Disk Defragmenter.
- Open Control Panel
- Double-click the System icon.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Click the button that says Settings in Performance.
- Clck the Advanced tab in Performance Options
- Click the button that says Change in the Virtual Memory area.
- Set the Initial and Maximum size to 1024.
- Reboot the computer in order for it to set up the permanent swap file.
