Question: November 2007 - How do I create a permanent paging file?
 
Answer: Configuring a permanent swap file, sometimes called a paging file, allows speech recognition software programs to send information out to the disk when it runs out of physical RAM memory. To set this up follow the following procedures:
  1. Perform a Defrag. This ensures that the permanent swap file is placed in a contiguous single area of the hard drive. Start button, Programs, Accessories, Sytem Tools, Disk Defragmenter.
  2. Open Control Panel
  3. Double-click the System icon.
  4. Select the Advanced tab.
  5. Click the button that says Settings in Performance.
  6. Clck the Advanced tab in Performance Options
  7. Click the button that says Change in the Virtual Memory area.
  8. Set the Initial and Maximum size to 1024.
  9. Reboot the computer in order for it to set up the permanent swap file.
