The Sennheiser MD431II is the speech recognition industry standard. All other microphones are measured against the MD431II. When you hold this microphone you know you are experiencing quality at its best. It's the finest handheld microphone we've ever used. It filters high levels of background noise and allows us to use it for demonstrations on the floor of noisy trade shows and conventions. This microphone picks out the correct word even when you slightly slur words together. The MD431II seems to get small words like "a" "an" "and" that other good microphones occasionally miss.

Although the MD431II is still the industry standard, it has close competition in the less expensive Audix OM2S. You would only notice a difference if background noise levels were equivalent to a concert or the floor of the stock exchange.
